A politician, Chief Fyneman Wilson, and thousands of his supporters have left the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Bayelsa State. They joined the All Progressives Congress in Yenagoa. Residents are calling it a political tsunami.

Wilson is a former lawmaker in the old Rivers State House of Assembly. He also served as the Political Adviser to Senator Seriake Dickson when he was governor. On Wednesday, he said the NDC lacks internal democracy. He claimed every decision is made by Senator Seriake Dickson, the NDC national leader.

Wilson expressed anger over how the party treated his son. He said his son won the primary election but the results were changed to favor another candidate. He warned that the party would face consequences if it continued to ignore internal democracy. He resigned last Friday.

Wilson decided to join the APC to help the party win elections. He promised to work hard for the success of his new party. He said, “My son, Felix Wilson, contested the (House of Assembly) primary in NDC and he defeated Michael (Magbisa) hands down. I met with the chairman, managing director and national leader of NDC and he told me he would look into it.

“He came to my house and first condoled with me over the demise of my son. I told him that my son won the primary election and if he is not declared the winner, I would leave the party.

“The NDC is a one-man show and it is heading nowhere.”

Other leaders also joined Wilson in criticizing the NDC. Mr. Felix Wilson, Hon. Victor Egba, and Mrs. Egbuson Clement all called the NDC a one-man party. They expressed happiness to join the APC and promised to work for the ruling party's victory.

The Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, welcomed the new members. He represented Governor Douye Diri at the event. He called Chief Wilson an encyclopaedia and a father. He said Wilson's experience in politics will help the APC in the 2027 elections and beyond.

The deputy governor said the APC is a democratic party that treats its members fairly. He pointed to the recent smooth congresses and primaries as proof of its democratic nature. He said, “Let me appreciate and recognise our father, Chief Fyneman Wilson, who can be rightly described as an encyclopaedia. His level of experience in politics is rare and we recognise your presence for being with us where you are supposed to be.

“This day has gone down in the history of Bayelsa State. You have all done what is right. APC is the right place to be. As much as possible, there is inclusivity in the party.

“I join the party leadership to say welcome to your party. Together we will work for the success of all our candidates in the 2027 elections.”

Earlier, a former deputy governor, Peremobowei Ebebi, said with Wilson, his son, and their followers joining, the APC will win in Sagbama and Bayelsa West in the 2027 general elections.
