Nigerian actress Kate Henshaw has talked about how she managed the much-discussed scene in Netflix’s “Blood Sisters” Season 2. This scene is an intimate moment between her character Uduak Ademola and Akin, played by Daniel Etim-Effiong.
This intimacy scene has caused a lot of chatter on social media. There are growing discussions about Etim-Effiong’s romantic roles on screen. Many online users feel he has too many of these roles for a married man.
Last year, the topic about Etim-Effiong’s on-screen romance gained attention. This was after his kissing scenes with actress Bolaji Ogunmola in “Summer Rain” went viral. The clip led to a lot of online criticism. It also put Etim-Effiong’s wife, Toyosi, in the spotlight. People started to talk about her on social media. She later responded by saying she supports her husband kissing as many actresses as his roles require.
During an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo and other cast members, the 54-year-old actress highlighted that professionalism guided their performances. She stated that Etim-Effiong acted appropriately on set.
“With the sex scenes, I had a conversation with Daniel, ‘How far? Are you comfortable?’ He said, ‘No problem.’
“My character was topless with him. But there are no viewers who see the bra because there’s no way to cover it,” Henshaw said.
She mentioned that communication was key while filming. She praised Etim-Effiong for being reassuring throughout the process. She described him as a true gentleman. “He didn’t rise to the occasion. He’s a good boy. Let me clear that outside. He’s professional.
“I heard he’s the original Kizz Daniel. I didn’t know. They were calling him Kizz Daniel, and I asked why?”
As the debate continues, some online users are complaining that Etim-Effiong’s kissing scenes are “too much.” They warned that “feelings can develop.” In response, the actor decided to address the criticisms directly.
He shared that he prays before such scenes, explaining that the industry focuses too much on one type of intimacy. “I get all my inspiration from God; I go on my knees and pray before going on set and before every kiss scene,” he said during an interview on Channels Television’s “Rubbin’ Minds.”
The actor, who switched from engineering to storytelling, believes his work is a form of worship. He referenced the biblical story of God placing Adam in the garden and telling him to take care of it.
EbonyLife Studios produced the series four years after the first part. Media entrepreneur Mo Abudu is behind it, and it has become one of Netflix’s most talked-about Nigerian originals.
The crime thriller brings back Ini Dima-Okojie and Nancy Isime as Sarah Duru and Kemi Sanya. Their lives become closely linked after a tragic event on a wedding day.
The cast also includes Kehinde Bankole, Gabriel Afolayan, Wale Ojo, Uche Jombo, Segun Arinze, Michelle Dede, and Mike Afolarin.
