The Kwankwasiyya Movement is asking the Presidency to explain the issues around the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. They say the situation is now bigger than just one person. It tests the Federal Government’s honesty and responsibility.
The movement made this call in a statement on Saturday from its spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed.
They pointed out that even though the Presidency has denied the council's existence, reports show that over N1 billion was allocated to it in the 2026 budget. This raises big questions that need quick answers.
The statement said this issue should not be seen as just one person's wrongdoing. "This is no longer about one man. It has become a question of public accountability," the movement stated.
They asked several questions: "If the council never existed, how did it find its way into the national budget? Who proposed and approved the allocation? Which government offices processed the documentation? Was any public money released or committed?"
They also questioned how official documents could be forged and used for so long without anyone noticing.
The movement insists these issues concern public accountability and not just politics. They noted that President Bola Tinubu's administration promised reform and responsible governance when it took office. They believe those promises should show in how the government deals with this issue.
"The Tinubu administration came into office promising Renewed Hope, institutional reform, and responsible governance. Those promises must now be measured against its willingness to provide full disclosure on this and other matters."
They warned that keeping quiet or shifting blame would only make the public distrust the government more. The group also said this controversy could harm Nigeria's image among foreign investors.
"Foreign investors assess not only economic policies but also the integrity of public institutions. Any uncertainty about the authenticity of government bodies or official appointments risks undermining confidence in Nigeria’s governance and investment climate," they explained.
The movement is calling on the Presidency to share details about the budget allocation, including how it started, the processes that led to it, and steps being taken to stop this from happening again.
They also want the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies, and other oversight bodies to investigate the matter independently.
"We will continue to demand transparency, not because of politics, but because public office is a public trust. Every naira appropriated belongs to the Nigerian people, and every public institution must be accountable to them," the statement concluded.
The group emphasized that Nigerians deserve a clear explanation of this situation without any delay.
