The Labour Party's chairman in Abia State, Mr Peter Azubuike, has said the party is ready for a big win in the 2027 general elections. He believes they would win "before 2 pm" if the Independent National Electoral Commission held an election today.

Azubuike shared this on Monday while talking to journalists at the LP State Secretariat in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

He mentioned that the party has settled its internal issues and is now fully prepared for the next election cycle.

Calling the LP the most grassroots-focused party in the state, the chairman pointed to its current electoral presence as proof of its strength.

He said, "If INEC conducts an election today, we will win before 2 p.m. because we are the only political party with a strong grassroots presence. We have 184 councillors, 17 local government chairmen, and 20 members of the Abia State House of Assembly. That is evidence of our widespread acceptance and grassroots support."

Azubuike explained that the party chose the direct primary system to make candidate selection clear and to avoid problems ahead of the 2027 elections. He also rejected claims that only one nomination form was sold in some areas.

"It is not true that only one form was sold. In several constituencies, multiple aspirants purchased forms. In fact, not all sitting lawmakers secured the ticket. A clear example is the Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, where the incumbent did not get the return ticket," he stated.

He noted that the party has invested a lot in building its structures from the ward level up to the state level. He is confident about another "massive victory" in 2027.

The LP chairman also confirmed that the Senator Nenadi Usman-led national leadership is the faction recognized by INEC.

He said the party has already received access to the INEC portal to upload candidates, which he called confirmation of its legitimacy with the electoral body.

Azubuike reiterated the party’s commitment to internal democracy, grassroots mobilization, and strong leadership as it steps up preparations for the 2027 elections.
