The Lagos State Security Trust Fund has given bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets, and raincoats to the Lagos State Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. This donation aims to boost the safety and work capacity of their officers.

The handover happened during an official visit by Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the LSSTF, to the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command on Wednesday. He assured the officers of his commitment to their welfare and effectiveness in fighting drug trafficking and abuse.

While speaking to the officers, Ogunsan praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his ongoing investment in security across Lagos State.

"Let me commend the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, in whose authority I am here today. He is the brain behind all that we do for security agencies in Lagos.

"I want to say that my visit here is to celebrate the best. I am celebrating the best governor as far as security is concerned in Nigeria. Lagos is the best and the safest state in the country," he said.

Ogunsan also recognized the leadership of the command, calling it one of the best in Nigeria.

"I also celebrate the best NDLEA Command in Nigeria and ACGN Liman Wali. Since he took office, we have seen many great things he has done. The energy with which he works brought me here. You are playing a very important role within the Lagos security ecosystem every day. We are very happy to work with you," he added.

He explained the reason for the donation, saying the protective gear would help keep officers safe while on duty.

"We have come to offer these bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets, and raincoats so that you can do more and achieve more. This will help you on your regular patrol. We want all of our officers’ vital organs to be protected. Please make good use of all these items; we are open for further consultation," he said.

Ogunsan also sent a warning to criminals thinking of operating in Lagos.

"This is a warning to all and sundry, especially those who want to cause trouble. Lagos is not empty. We are not going to accept anything less than safety. Lagos is safe. Lagos is security-conscious. Lagos will not shelter criminals. We are watching activities on land, at sea, and in the air," he said.

In response, the commander of the state NDLEA, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics Wali Liman, thanked the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for the gear.

"I want to thank Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and also the LSSTF CEO, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, for coming to our office and for the donations of these bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets, and 100 raincoats, which will really enhance the safety and welfare of our officers, especially in this rainy season," he said.

Liman also presented a special souvenir to LSSTF CEO Dr Ogunsan and confirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening the fight against illegal drugs through enforcement and public awareness.

"I want to assure Lagos State that we at the NDLEA are ready to strengthen advocacy and, in any way we can, reduce drug trafficking and drug abuse in our society," he added.
