The Nigerian Army has changed its leadership, moving around senior officers in key positions. This includes field commanders, school commandants, and staff officers at the army headquarters.

This information came from a statement by army spokesperson Appolonia Anele on Saturday.

According to the statement, the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, a lieutenant general, approved this reshuffle. He said the move is meant to improve operational effectiveness, boost national security, and strengthen the army’s ability to handle new security challenges across the country.

“In the new posting, Major General WM Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola. Major General EI Okoro takes over as General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General EE Emeka,” the spokesperson said.

Colonel Anele also mentioned that Major General JR Lar is now the commander of the army headquarters garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola is the acting military secretary for the army.

“Brigadier General I Waziri continues in the Office of the COAS as Chief of Staff,” she said.

A brigadier general, IB Buhari, has been appointed commander of the 63 Brigade headquarters, while Brigadier General K Rabiu took command of the 31 Artillery Brigade headquarters. The spokesperson said these changes are part of efforts to improve leadership and readiness.

Major General SA Emmanuel is now the commander of the Army Space Command. This position highlights the army’s increasing focus on new areas of warfare and technology-driven security operations.

“Major General O Adegbe has also been appointed Director Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters,” added Ms Anele.

In terms of military education and development, Major General KE Chigbu has been made Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College. Major General SD Makolo is the new Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School. Major General SO Adejimi will head the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, while Major General FS Etim is now Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army.

Brigadier General U Ahmad is taking over as Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

Other notable appointments include Major General KO Ukandu as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited and Major General AI Allison as Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.

Ms Anele stated that the COAS has charged the newly appointed senior officers to prove their worth. They should show strong leadership, professionalism, creativity, and dedication to the army's mission of defending Nigeria, protecting its land, and helping maintain peace and security.
