The Ekiti State Police have stopped a robbery on the Oye-Ikole Road. They arrested two suspects and recovered stolen items.
Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ekiti State, said this success came from the command's intelligence-led policing.
In a statement from Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, Abutu said two victims of the robbery were also rescued from a nearby bush.
Abutu explained what happened. He said, “In the early hours of Monday, 29th June, 2026, at about 3 am, a gang of three armed hoodlums attacked a faulty petrol tanker along the Ikole-Oye Road.
“The hoodlums robbed the driver and his motor boy of their mobile phones before abducting them into a nearby bush, where they tied both victims to a tree.
“The suspects then returned to the tanker, removed six truck tyres, and loaded them into an ash-coloured Ford minibus, intending to flee towards Kogi State.”
Abutu said the suspects' luck ran out when the Safer Highway Patrol acted on good intelligence. They stopped the vehicle, recovered all the stolen tyres, and arrested two suspects, Ezekiel Balogun and Usman Wada, both from Kabba, Kogi State. The third suspect got away and is still at large.
Abutu stated, “The arrested suspects led the police operatives to the bush where the abducted driver and his motor boy were rescued unharmed.
“The case has been moved to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit for thorough investigation. Efforts are on to catch the suspect who escaped and bring everyone involved to justice.”
Abutu also said that the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Michael Falade, assured residents of the command's strong commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged the public to keep providing timely and reliable information to help fight crime.
