Fourteen people arrested for allegedly attacking workers of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, known as KAI, have each been given three months in prison.
The sentences were handed down on Wednesday after the convicts admitted to assaulting the sanitation workers while they were on duty at the Oshodi Resettlement Market.
They were arrested after attacking KAI staff during an enforcement operation in the market.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, the incident involved assault on KAI officials and the destruction of a vehicle used by the agency.
The suspects were caught at the scene and taken to the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi before they faced court on Wednesday.
Wahab gave updates on the case through his X account on Wednesday. He named the convicts as Zaradeen Sheu, Abdullahi Bello, Saheed Oladele, Dan Halima Umar, Nofiu Ibrahim, Abubakar Sari, and Alfred Magnus.
Others include Sanni Adamu, Umar Sabi, Dayabu Danmar, Seidu Adam, Isa Muhammed, Yakubu Umar, and Abubakar Muktari.
Wahab mentioned that all the accused pleaded guilty and the court convicted them.
“Fourteen individuals were taken to the Magistrate Court at Bolade, Oshodi, for assaulting KAI staff and damaging their vehicle.
“They all admitted guilt and received three months in prison,” he wrote.
Earlier this year, in April, a Lagos Magistrate Court also sentenced three people for attacking KAI officials during a routine enforcement operation along Olowu Street in the Ipodo area.
