Folarin Balogun kept up his great performance for the United States Menβs National Team on Friday. He won his second straight Man of the Match award during the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage.
This latest award came after the USMNT beat Australia 2, 0. This victory secured their spot in the knockout stage of the tournament.
The Nigerian-American striker caused problems for the Australian defenders. He pressured them into making a mistake that led to an own goal by Cameron Burgess in the 11th minute.
Balogun's constant movement, ability to hold up the ball, and teamwork helped the US dominate possession. They controlled the game well, even without their star player Christian Pulisic.
This award follows Balogun's exciting World Cup debut against Paraguay. He scored two goals in a 4, 1 win, making him the first American to score twice in a World Cup match since 1930. He also won the first Man of the Match award in that game.
Folarin Balogun was born in New York to Nigerian parents and grew up in England. He decided to play for the United States internationally, even though he could have chosen England or Nigeria.
