The Bayelsa State Government has shared its financial details, stating that it spends ₦13 billion monthly on salaries. This information is part of the government’s promise to be open about the state’s finances for March and April 2026.
Timipre Seipolu, who advises Governor Douye Diri on treasury and accounts, gave this breakdown during a meeting at the treasury building in Yenagoa.
The total monthly salary obligations for the state, which includes civil servants, political appointees, and retirees, is ₦14 billion. But the actual salary-related spending for this period was confirmed at ₦13 billion.
Key Expenditure Figures (April/March)
The government provided details on how the funds were used to promote accountability:
- Civil Servant Salaries: ₦7.74 billion (April)
- Political Appointees: ₦1.95 billion
- Grants to Tertiary Institutions: ₦2 billion
- Pension Arrears: ₦259.71 million
- Salary Arrears (General): ₦428.66 million
- Salary Arrears (Right-sizing): ₦207.59 million
- Gratuity Payments: ₦200 million (March)
- Primary School Teacher Contributions (Local Govt): ₦229 million
- Youth Corps’ Allowances: ₦60.27 million
- Minimum Wage Arrears: ₦50 million
Revenue and Accountability
Officials said Bayelsa State earned a total revenue of ₦42.3 billion in March 2026.
Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, stressed that being transparent is a key focus for Governor Diri’s administration. She highlighted the government’s dedication to careful financial management and encouraged residents to visit project sites to see how state funds are being spent.
She also assured that the state is keeping up with all financial commitments for ongoing development projects.
