African young stars are making a strong case for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Young Player Award. They have inspired their countries to reach the Round of 32.

FIFA shared its latest assessment on Tuesday. It highlighted 11 standout players born on or after January 1, 2005. These players boosted their chances for the Young Player Award in the tournament.

Five of these 11 players are from Africa. This shows how much influence the continent has in this tournament.

Yan Diomande and Christ Inao Oulai (Côte d’Ivoire)

Diomande has stood out in this tournament. The 19-year-old forward from Leipzig assisted in Côte d’Ivoire’s 2-0 win over Curaçao. He is the only player this century to complete 10 dribbles and create 10 chances in his first three World Cup matches.

His teammate, Christ Inao Oulai, also played well. He made key contributions from midfield during the Ivorians’ successful qualification campaign.

Ibrahim Maza (Algeria)

Maza from Algeria played in all three group matches. He was named Superior Player of the Match in the win over Jordan. This victory helped Algeria secure a spot in the knockout rounds.

Ayyoub Bouaddi (Morocco)

Morocco’s 18-year-old midfielder Bouaddi impressed many. His calmness and ability to control the game helped the Atlas Lions reach the last 32. He also played in the knockout stage win against the Netherlands, taking two shots in 79 minutes.

Ibrahim Mbaye (Senegal)

Senegal winger Mbaye made history. He became the youngest African player to score at a FIFA World Cup at just 18 years and 143 days old. He scored against France earlier in the tournament.
