France made it to the Round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday, winning 3-0 against Sweden in their Round of 32 match.
From the start, France controlled the game, forcing Sweden to play defense for most of the match. Even though France moved the ball well, they had a hard time scoring at first. The first goal came in the 45th minute when captain Kylian Mbappé scored from a pass by Ousmane Dembélé, giving France a deserved lead at halftime.
In the second half, France came out with more energy. Their efforts paid off with a second goal in the 53rd minute. Bradley Barcola scored after a great assist from Michael Olise.
Sweden tried to fight back by attacking, but France’s strong defense stayed solid and hard to break through. Mbappé confirmed the victory in the 74th minute, scoring his second goal with another great assist from Olise.
After the match, Mbappé praised the team’s performance: "It was a great team performance. We showed focus and quality."
Olise stood out during the game, providing two assists and leading France's attacks. This win shows France's strong squad and attacking skills as they move on to the knockout stage with confidence. Sweden leaves the tournament after failing to keep up with France's creativity and offense.
Next, France will play against Paraguay in the Round of 16 as they aim for the title.
