The Assistant Controller of Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre, Dalhat Ibrahim, has said that Governor Uba Sani’s recent financial support to some inmates he released on 12 June for Democracy Day will encourage them and other inmates to be good citizens.
The Governor used his power of mercy to free 97 inmates and promised to help them financially as they return to society.
After Kaduna State Government officials gave each released inmate N100,000 on Friday, Dalhat Ibrahim praised Governor Sani’s kind gesture.
He said that the governor’s help will aid in the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of the ex-inmates.
By paying the fines and giving them cash support, Ibrahim noted this would motivate them to behave well. He said they are now ready to reintegrate into society.
Mr Ibrahim urged the freed inmates to use the money wisely. He suggested they use it as working capital to start a business or begin a new life.
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on protocol, Mohammed Suleiman, said they visited the Custodial Centre as part of the final stage of the clemency granted some inmates on 12 June.
Mr Mohammed led senior government officials to fulfill Governor Sani’s promise by giving N100,000 each to the freed inmates.
He reminded the freed prisoners to behave well and avoid any actions that could lead them back to prison.
During the event, one of the freed inmates, Chuks Solomon from Ebonyi State, expressed gratitude to the governor. He said, "This opportunity for us to be out of prison is something we appreciate."
He added, "We thank him for giving us the money because some of us will use it as capital to start a business. We pray that God will continue to bless him."
Another former inmate, Abubakar Umar, who spoke in Hausa, called their release a very happy day in their lives, thanks to the governor.
He prayed that God should bless Governor Sani, Kaduna State, and the country. He also prayed that God grants the governor’s wishes both in this life and the next.
