DR Congo’s famous supporter, Michel Kuka Mboladinga, made his first appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He joined the Leopards for their Group K match against Colombia after missing the opening game due to an Ebola-related quarantine.
Known as "Lumumba Vea," Mboladinga is famous for dressing like Patrice Lumumba, the first prime minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is often seen standing still during matches with his right arm raised in a meaningful gesture.
Mboladinga missed DR Congo’s surprising 1-1 draw against Portugal. He was put under a 21-day quarantine following Ebola outbreaks in his country, according to BBC reports.
After completing the isolation period, Mboladinga rejoined the Congolese team. He was at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara for their second Group K match.
Mboladinga calls his tribute to Lumumba a “sign of peace” for his country. He became well-known during the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and is now one of the most recognized supporters in African football.
Before the match started, he took photos with fans from both Congo and Colombia. He then took his usual spot in the stands to quietly cheer for his team.
Sadly, his return did not bring good luck to the Leopards. They lost 1-0 to Colombia. The winning goal came from a deflected shot by defender Daniel Muñoz.
Despite the defeat, Mboladinga’s presence brought color and meaning to DR Congo’s World Cup journey. Fans in the stadium and viewers around the world appreciated his support.
