The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has promised that the state will take care of the family of Ummulkhairi Aliyu, the woman killed by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.

The governor stated that his government will provide for the husband and four children of the deceased, which includes sponsoring their education.

Sani made this promise on Saturday during a condolence visit to the family in Maraban Jos. This visit came nearly two weeks after the tragic incident.

Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, was beaten to death by an angry mob on June 14. The mob accused her of trying to kidnap children.

After her death, they set her body on fire before security forces arrived to restore order in the area.

During his visit, the governor condemned the mob's actions, calling it barbaric. He assured the family that justice would be served.

He said, “I was out of Kaduna State on an official assignment when this unfortunate incident occurred, but I immediately directed senior government officials to visit the family and commiserate with them.

“I also want to assure you that the Kaduna State Government will take responsibility for the welfare of the family. We will support the husband and ensure that the four children receive quality education.”

The governor revealed that he is working closely with security agencies to ensure that everyone involved in the killing is brought to justice.

According to him, “I’m working with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the State Security Service, as well as all the relevant security agencies in Kaduna State to get to the root of the matter.

“I’m happy to say that they have carried out extensive investigations into this incident. As we are speaking, about 41 persons have been charged with culpable homicide.

“Another 41 persons have undergone investigation, bringing the total number investigated to 82, while 30 suspects have also been charged with unlawful assembly.”

He promised that no one involved in the killing would escape justice, no matter their status.

“Everyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law. We must send a clear message that no one has the right to take the law into their hands,” the governor added.

While praising security agencies for their quick response and ongoing investigation, Governor Sani directed that the actions of some security personnel, especially the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Maraban Jos, be carefully checked.

He insisted that any officer found to be negligent or to have compromised the investigation would also face consequences.

The killing of Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu drew strong condemnation across Nigeria. Religious leaders, civil society groups, and human rights advocates are calling for justice and stronger actions to stop mob violence.

Following the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command began a thorough investigation, leading to the arrest and arraignment of many suspects for crimes such as culpable homicide and unlawful assembly.
