The Allied Peoples Movement in Lagos State has finished screening aspirants who want to run for elections under the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Abiodun Abari, the Chairman of the APM Lagos State Screening Committee, shared this news in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Lagos after the screening was done.

Abari mentioned that the five-man committee screened Prince Laja Adeoye, the party’s only consensus governorship aspirant, along with other candidates for different positions in the state.

He explained that the committee reviewed three senatorial aspirants, 24 candidates for the House of Representatives, and 40 hopefuls for the Lagos State House of Assembly seats.

Abari said all the aspirants passed the screening and will be confirmed as consensus candidates during the party’s primary elections.

“The screening went according to the party guidelines smoothly. We could screen and clear all the aspirants because the party reached a consensus for all the positions.

“The quality assurance process we carried out is very important because we want to ensure the party puts its best foot forward for the upcoming elections.

“Only the best aspirants were presented as consensus candidates, which made our job much easier.

“We need this because we want to serve Lagos residents and ensure we present the best to serve the people,” he said.

Abari commented that getting consensus among aspirants was initially tough but was made possible by the unity within the party leadership and members.

“Consensus was not easy, but due to the unity of purpose we have in the party, this was achieved, and all the aspirants were cleared.

“Other aspirants decided to put aside their ambitions for the greater good of the party and the state.

“We should remember that the PDP mainstream is using the APM platform under the PDP-APM coalition formed for the upcoming elections,” he said.

The committee chairman pointed out that the partnership between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM has boosted the opposition’s chances in Lagos for the 2027 elections.

“With this alliance, the APM has become the main opposition in Lagos State for the 2027 election.

“This is the party to watch. This is the real alternative party for the people. We want all our aspirants to get out there and bring everyone back under this alliance,” Abari said.

After being screened and cleared, Adeoye said he met all the requirements set by the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s guidelines.

“In line with the Nigerian Electoral Act and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I appeared today for the Lagos State Governorship screening of the APM.

“I successfully presented all required credentials and submitted my completed Governorship Nomination Form for Lagos State.

“This marks another important step in our journey to reset Lagos,” Adeoye said.
