Man Gets Five Years for Misusing Corpse on Subway

A court in New York has sentenced a 44-year-old man, Felix Rojas, to five years in prison for abusing the body of a deceased man on a subway train in Manhattan.

Rojas was sentenced on Wednesday after admitting to the crime related to Jorge Gonzalez, 37, who died after losing consciousness on an R train in April 2025, according to Sky News Australia.

Prosecutors said video footage showed Rojas targeting Gonzalez after seeing that he was not responsive. Court documents also revealed that Rojas searched the victim’s pockets during this incident.

Authorities said Rojas, who lives in Brooklyn, turned himself in to the police about three weeks later. He recognized himself in the surveillance photos released during the investigation. He reportedly denied the crime when police questioned him.

Along with the prison sentence, the court ordered Rojas to be under 15 years of supervised release after he finishes his time in prison.

Reports state that immigration officials identified Rojas as a Mexican national. He had tried to enter the United States illegally several times before.

The victim, Gonzalez, had lived in the U.S. for almost twenty years. He worked various jobs to support his family back in Mexico.

After the sentencing, Gonzalez’s family described him as a dedicated father and a hardworking man. They said he took on jobs in construction, restaurants, and services to provide for his loved ones.

This case gained a lot of attention in the U.S. because of the shocking nature of the crime and the concerns it raised about safety and monitoring in New York City’s subway system.
