The Lagos State Police has started a security check at Pan-Atlantic University. This comes after a viral video showed two masked people coming from a forest near the school.
In a press release, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, said he led police officers to the university for an assessment. This visit followed the circulation of the viral video.
The statement was signed by SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos Command. It was released on Wednesday.
The release was titled, "CP Tijani Fatai Conducts On-the-Spot Security Assessment at Pan-Atlantic University, Lekki, Emphasising Proactive Security Measures."
During his visit, the Commissioner met with the university management. He urged them to improve their internal security measures.
The Command said he stressed the need to strengthen the university’s security system. He also advised on practical steps to enhance security across the campus.
The statement mentioned concerns about possible internal risks. The Commissioner highlighted, "the importance of avoiding acts of self-sabotage that could undermine existing security efforts."
On support for operations, the Command revealed that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund has added aerial surveillance capabilities.
They said surveillance drones have been deployed. This was facilitated by the Lagos State Government to help with intelligence gathering and crime prevention in the area.
The Commissioner assured everyone involved that protection efforts will continue. He said, "I reassure the management, staff, students, and parents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property across Lagos State."
He also called for immediate upgrades at the university. This includes improving perimeter security and access control, as well as working closely with security agencies.
The Command ended by reaffirming its commitment to safety across the state. They noted, "The Lagos State Police Command remains steadfast in its resolve to maintain peace, public safety, and security throughout the State."
Residents were encouraged to support police efforts by sharing information. They can use the emergency numbers listed in the statement.
