Ahead of the Saturday bye-election in Ondo South Senatorial District, the governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has urged residents to vote for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Dayo Faduyile.
The Independent National Electoral Commission is holding the bye-election to fill the seat left vacant by former senator Jimoh Ibrahim's appointment as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Aiyedatiwa spoke at the final APC campaign rally in Okitipupa on Thursday. He asked the people to behave peacefully during the election and ensure their votes are counted.
The governor was represented by his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami. He praised Prof. Faduyile, a former President of the Nigeria Medical Association, calling him the best candidate for the senate.
Aiyedatiwa said, “Prof. Faduyile possesses the requisite experience, intellect and leadership qualities needed to effectively articulate the interests of Ondo South at the National Assembly.
“This senatorial district has enjoyed quality representation under Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who as an intellectual of notable standing, so we must sustain that tradition by electing another candidate of proven competence.
“We have had quality representation in the senate, and Ondo South cannot afford to lower the bar. Prof. Faduyile has the capacity and pedigree to continue that legacy.”
The governor also shared his belief in the rising support for the APC in the state. He reiterated the party’s goal to gain strong backing for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, the state APC Chairman, Mr Babatunde Kolawole, encouraged party members and stakeholders to ramp up grassroots mobilization before the election. He assured them of the State Working Committee’s commitment to securing victory for the party.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Campaign Committee, Pastor Femi Agagu, described Prof. Faduyile as a candidate with impressive credentials, acceptability, and a solid track record, making him an appealing choice for voters in the district.
