The police in Anambra State have started looking into the death of a 25-year-old female student. Her body was found in Onitsha, and the situation suggests it might be a suicide.

The name of the young woman has not been revealed.

This tragic event happened on June 18 and has caught the public's attention after a video went viral. In the video, residents and passersby are seen gathered at the scene.

Police officials stated they found a handwritten note that is believed to belong to the deceased during their initial investigations.

On Sunday, CP Ikioye Orutugu, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, shared his worries about this incident. He called for better support for young people.

“The Anambra State Command has expressed deep concern over the increasing level of moral decay and other alarming events happening in society.

“The rising trend is troubling and it requires urgent attention from families, communities, religious bodies and other relevant groups,” he said.

The commissioner mentioned that the deceased was found in a way that suggests suicide. He also confirmed that investigators found a note at the scene.

“A note believed to be a suicide message was retrieved, which had a disturbing story about a breakup after three abortions for a man named Chigozie,” he said.

“While we are still investigating to find out exactly what happened, this situation highlights the need for better parental guidance, moral upbringing, and emotional support for young people,” Orutugu added.

He urged parents and guardians to pay more attention to the emotional health of their children. He stressed the need for good communication and value-based upbringing.

“Also, many social issues can be reduced through effective parenting, open conversations, and teaching good moral values.

“We also call on community leaders, schools, faith-based groups, and civil society to increase advocacy and mentorship programs. These programs should aim to promote positive values, resilience, and responsible living among youths,” he said.

Orutugu revealed that the case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a thorough and careful investigation.

He assured that the police are committed to protecting lives and property. They are also working with relevant groups to tackle social issues that affect public safety and community well-being.
