The All Progressives Congress candidate for the Nasarawa North Senatorial by-election, Danladi Envulu-anza, has been declared the winner. He secured a total of 45,362 votes.
The by-election took place on June 20, 2026. This election followed the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who passed away after a long illness.
Prof. Aminu Ali, the Returning Officer, announced the results at the collation centre in the College of Education, Akwanga. This announcement was made on Sunday after counting votes from Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, and Wamba Local Government Areas.
While announcing the results, Prof. Ali stated, “Danladi Envulu-anza of the APC scored 45,362 votes, Labaran Maku of the Labour Party scored 12,931 votes, and Emmanuel David Ombugadu of the PDP got 11,570 votes.
“The ADC candidate, Alaku Mohammed Steve scored 1,496 votes and John Paul of the NNPP got 102 votes.”
He concluded with, “That Danladi Halilu Envulu-anza of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
Meanwhile, members of the Labour Party at the Nasarawa North Senatorial District collation centre protested the results and the collation process.
Ben Ango, who led the LP team, walked out of the collation centre at the College of Education, Akwanga. He left the venue with other party members shortly after the results for the three LGAs were announced.
This protest happened right after officials wrapped up the counting from Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, and Wamba LGAs, which make up the Nasarawa North Senatorial District.
Reports say INEC officials were busy working on the final figures when the protest occurred.
Ango did not speak to the press before leaving the venue, but LP officials there showed their disappointment with the collation process.
During the senatorial by-election, LP candidate Labaran Maku had raised concerns about BVAS malfunctions and issues with ballots in many polling units across the district.
