As the senatorial by-election in Nasarawa North Senatorial District approaches on Saturday, the campaign team of former Inspector-General of Police Abubakar Adamu has thrown its weight behind Labaran Maku, the Labour Party candidate.
The endorsement was made public on Thursday by the Counter and Mobilisation Committee of the Abubakar Adamu 2027 campaign team during a meeting with Maku in Akwanga.
Isa Nathaniel, the committee chairman, spoke at the meeting. He said Maku was chosen as the preferred candidate after discussions with key stakeholders.
The senatorial seat became open after the passing of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who had been ill for a long time.
Nathaniel believes Maku is the best candidate for the job. He pointed to Maku’s political experience and his support from Akwanga, Wamba, and Nasarawa Eggon local government areas.
"After a thorough review of all the candidates in this race and discussions with important stakeholders, the Counter and Mobilisation Team of the Rtd IGP Adamu 2027 Movement has reached a clear decision.
"We officially endorse His Excellency, Labaran Maku, as the most qualified, skilled, and ready candidate to lead us forward," he stated.
Nathaniel added that the district needs an experienced lawmaker who can bring in development. He mentioned that Maku's background in student unionism, state government, and the Federal Government has equipped him for this role.
He urged supporters of the former police chief and residents to vote for the Labour Party candidate in the June 20 by-election.
Jacob Kudu, who represents Nasarawa Eggon East in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, also spoke. He called Maku a trustworthy and experienced leader.
"We would be making a big mistake if we do not vote for Maku as our senator in the by-election," Kudu said.
Maku responded by thanking the campaign team for their support. He promised to provide good representation if he wins on Saturday.
