The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has teamed up with Meta to encourage responsible digital citizenship and protect young Nigerians on the internet.

Kashifu Inuwa, the Director-General of NITDA, shared news of the partnership at the Youth Safety Summit held by Meta on Thursday.

The summit took place in Abuja. At the event, Meta, along with NITDA and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, kicked off the Youth Online Safety Campaign and My Digital World 2.0.

Many stakeholders attended the summit. They included government officials, civil society groups, educators, and industry leaders. They discussed ways to make the digital world safer for young people.

Ahmed Tambuwal, acting director of NITDA’s Digital Literacy and Capacity Building Department, represented Mr Inuwa. He said the agency is dedicated to helping young people have safe, positive, and age-appropriate online experiences.

Mr Inuwa also mentioned that NITDA’s ongoing digital literacy programs across the country would get a big boost from working with Meta. This collaboration will focus on improving online safety education for young Nigerians.

He explained that the partnership aims to add online safety education into schools. This will help students learn the knowledge, skills, and values they need to use technology safely and responsibly.

Participants at the event stressed the need for better teamwork among government agencies, tech companies, educators, and civil society groups. They want to tackle new online risks and promote digital well-being for young people.

These initiatives should improve digital literacy, raise awareness about online safety, and support efforts to create a safer and more inclusive digital space for Nigerian youths.
