Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu scored two goals, including a last-minute penalty, as Trabzonspor beat Konyaspor 2-1 in the 2026 Turkish Cup final on Friday night. The match took place at Corendon Airlines Park in Antalya. This victory marks Trabzonspor's 10th Turkish Cup title, according to Saturday PUNCH.

Onuachu put Trabzonspor ahead in the 17th minute with a cool finish. The Black Sea Storm seemed to be on their way to the trophy until Jackson Muleka from Konyaspor equalised just four minutes into the second half.

The game looked like it might go to extra time. But Onuachu took a penalty in the 78th minute and scored to end the match. Konyaspor also had a chance to score from the spot, but Enis Bardhi missed his penalty in the 58th minute.

This win was especially satisfying for Trabzonspor. They lost the final last season 3-0 to Galatasaray. Head coach Fatih Tekke was in his second Turkish Cup final and celebrated his first trophy with the club.

Onuachu joined Trabzonspor permanently in June 2025. He had an impressive season, finishing as the Süper Lig Golden Boot winner with 22 goals. He also added four goals in cup matches, helping Trabzonspor to this victory.

Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu also played a part in the match. He joined the club from Wolfsberger in January and made 20 appearances this season. Both Nigerians capped off a great campaign with this cup win.

The night was also significant for Trabzonspor as it marked the end of an era. Veteran forward Anthony Nwakaeme, 37, played his last game for the club before his contract ends next month. Nwakaeme had two spells with Trabzonspor, from 2018 to 2022 and then again from July 2024.

During his time, he made 193 appearances, scoring 50 goals and providing 48 assists. He was crucial in the club’s Süper Lig title win in the 2021/22 season and won the Turkish Cup in the 2019/20 season and the Turkish Super Cup in 2020/21.

With this cup victory, Trabzonspor finished third in the Süper Lig this season. They will enter European competition next season with a stronger footing.
