Nigeria’s world record holder, Tobi Amusan, kept her winning streak alive on Sunday. She won the women’s 100-metre hurdles at the Paris Diamond League with an impressive time of 12.28 seconds.
This victory is Amusan’s second Diamond League win of the 2026 season. It is also the third time this year she has run 12.28 seconds. This shows her strong performance in world athletics. The Nigerian hurdler surged ahead in the final moments to finish well in front of American Grace Stark, who came second in 12.38 seconds. Alaysha Johnson took third place with a time of 12.39 seconds.
For Amusan, this latest win boosts her ranking among the world’s best hurdlers as she prepares for major championships later this season.
Consistent performance
The 29-year-old has hit the same world-class time on three occasions this year. She first ran 12.28 seconds at the Xiamen Diamond League in China, finishing second to American star Masai Russell. Amusan repeated the time in Rabat, winning her first Diamond League event of the season while also breaking her own meeting record.
Her latest win in Paris shows that the former world champion has maintained strong performance. The 12.28-second runs are among the fastest times in the world this year. Only a few athletes in history have shown such consistency at this level. Amusan’s ability to keep delivering similar world-class performances proves the stability she has found in her form.
Successful season
Amusan’s win in Paris is another highlight in her impressive 2026 season. She began her Diamond League season with a third-place finish in Shanghai. Then she moved up to second in Xiamen before winning in Rabat. After that, she went to Taiwan and added another title by winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in a meet-record time of 12.72 seconds. The former world champion also found success in Africa, winning gold at the African Championships in Accra.
Gaining momentum
Since setting the world record of 12.12 seconds at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Amusan has been one of the most consistent athletes in women’s hurdling. With the upcoming defence of her Commonwealth Games title and other big competitions ahead, Amusan’s performances have shown she is one of Nigeria’s strongest medal candidates.
