The Zamfara State Government has set up an eight-member panel to look into claims of serious misconduct and insubordination against the suspended Rector of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Talata Mafara, Dr Sirajo Abdullahi Shinkafi.

The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, launched the committee on Monday in Gusau, the state capital. The panel will be led by the former Head of Service, Mujtaba Isah.

While inaugurating the panel, Mr Nakwada urged them to ensure fairness and get to the truth. He said they should not assume anyone is guilty or innocent.

“Your job is not to assume guilt or innocence, but to find the facts objectively. You need to give all parties a fair hearing, look at all relevant evidence, and submit recommendations that are fair, well-reasoned, and follow the law and good governance principles,” the SSG said.

He also pointed out that besides looking into the allegations, the government will use the panel's findings to improve the governance structure at the polytechnic and other higher institutions in the state.

“The government wants the panel to find any gaps in the institution and suggest practical ways to improve governance, discipline, accountability, and administrative efficiency in the polytechnic and other state-owned tertiary institutions,” he added.

The SSG instructed all relevant individuals and institutions to fully cooperate with the panel by providing all necessary information for the success of the investigation.

In his speech, the panel's Chairman, Mr Mujtaba Isah, expressed gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal for trusting them with this task. He assured that they would carry out their work in the best interest of the state.

“We understand that this task needs experience and moral integrity, especially since it involves the head of an important institution.

“We will be careful and assure His Excellency that whatever decision we make will be in the best interest of the state.

“We will be just, fair, and leave no stone unturned in carrying out this task,” the Chairman of the panel stated.
