The All Progressives Congress won all three councillorship by-elections held by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission in different wards across the state.

The elections took place in Ward C, Orimedu I, in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area; Ward F, Bajulaiye/Fola Agoro, in Shomolu Local Government Area; and Ward H, Kayode/Fadeyi, in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area.

The results from LASIEC, shared with PUNCH Online on Tuesday, showed that APC candidate Rufai Kafayat Abosede won the Orimedu I, Ward C councillorship seat in Ibeju-Lekki. She received 8,386 votes, defeating Samsideen Adeleke from the African Democratic Congress, who got only 27 votes.

In Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Shotayo Samiat Adebigi from APC won in Kayode/Fadeyi Ward H with 3,820 votes. She beat Ifeanyi Abidemi Onwenu of the ADC, who scored 260 votes. The National Democratic Party candidate received 26 votes.

In Bajulaiye/Fola Agoro Ward F in Shomolu, the APC’s Kehinde Halimat Jolaosho emerged victorious after getting 2,546 votes. Her closest rival, Ifeanyibech Anyamebech from the ADC, got 157 votes, while the NDP candidate received 23 votes.

A statement from the commission explained that these by-elections were held to fill vacancies left by the deaths of the councillors who were elected to represent these wards.

The statement said, "The elections were necessary because of the unfortunate deaths of the elected Councillors representing the respective Wards. These positions must be filled according to democratic principles and LASIEC laws."

LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), was present to observe the elections alongside other commissioners and Permanent Secretary, AbdulRafiu Omowole Fashola. They praised the voters, political parties, security agencies, and election officials for the peaceful conduct of the polls.

The commission mentioned, "Electoral materials arrived on time at polling units. Accredited voters cast their votes peacefully. The entire process was secured, transparent, free, fair, and credible."

LASIEC emphasized its commitment to holding credible elections and promoting democratic values at the grassroots level. They assured residents that they would keep improving the electoral process through innovation, transparency, and stakeholder engagement.
