The Kogi State Police Command has said that rumors on social media about passengers being kidnapped on the Kabba-Okene Road on June 17 are not true. They called the claims false and misleading.
The police spokesperson, Oyiza Salisu, made this clear in a statement on Friday. She said no kidnapping took place on that road.
She explained that around 9 p.m. on June 17, a commercial bus driven by Ojo from Kabba was heading to Ibilo with cocoyam. While driving, the driver saw strange lights ahead.
Salisu said the driver tried to turn back. When he saw people coming towards him, he left the bus and ran to a nearby military checkpoint for safety.
"It is important to state clearly that no passenger was kidnapped or harmed, as there were no passengers on board at the time of the incident," Salisu said.
She also mentioned that initial findings showed the incident was not a crime. The bus had an electrical fault, which led to the situation.
According to the police, the goods were later moved to another vehicle and taken to their destination without any problems.
Salisu noted that the matter was resolved at the military checkpoint and was not reported to the police because there was no kidnapping or injuries.
"For the avoidance of doubt, the circulating claims of an armed bandit attack and abduction of passengers are misleading and not accurate," she added.
