The Nigeria Police Force has made a change in its public relations team. Iniedu Okokon, a chief superintendent of police (CSP), is now the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
Okokon takes over from Anthony Placid, a deputy commissioner of police (DCP), who held the position for just three months. Placid was appointed shortly after Olatunji Disu became the 23rd Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Mr Placid confirmed his replacement in a brief text message to our reporter. The police have not officially explained why this reshuffle happened.
Sources at the police headquarters told PREMIUM TIMES that Placid has been moved to lead the Finance and Administration unit of the Lagos Command. This position became available after the previous head, Khan Salihu, a DCP, died after a brief illness.
Mr Okokon is set to start his new role right away. He will handle public communication. The newly formed unit, Force New Media, will still be under the supervision of Aliyu Giwa, a CSP.
Before this appointment, Okokon was in charge of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), according to a senior police officer.
More official details are expected from the police soon.
