The Anambra State Police has rescued a 15-year-old pregnant girl and arrested a man for alleged child exploitation and sexual abuse.
The girl was found during a police operation near St. Paul’s Secondary School in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state Police Public Relations Officer, shared this news in a statement on Friday.
Ikenga mentioned that a man named Tochukwu Nwora was arrested during the operation.
This operation happened on June 17, 2026. Police acted on intelligence reports about youths allegedly using crystal methamphetamine, known as "Mkpuru Mmiri."
During the raid, officers discovered the teenager in a weak state and rescued her. “During the raid, the team rescued a 15-year-old girl who is heavily pregnant and arrested one Tochukwu Nwora over alleged child exploitation and sexual abuse,” Ikenga said.
Initial investigations showed that the girl had been abused by several adult men at different times in Nando, Anambra East Local Government Area, Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, and Achalla in Awka North Local Government Area.
Ikenga noted that some suspects took advantage of the girl’s situation by giving her small amounts of money.
The police have placed the victim in protective custody and taken her to the Police Hospital in Awka for medical check-ups and care.
Ikenga also mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered that the case be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a full investigation.
This investigation will also look into whether any parent or guardian was negligent or involved in the situation.
“The Command condemns all forms of child abuse, exploitation and violence against minors and reassures the public of its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice for victims,” the statement said.
The police are still working to find and arrest other people linked to the alleged abuse. The arrested suspect is currently providing useful information to investigators.
The command promised to keep residents updated as the investigation continues.
