Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, has congratulated Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his re-election. He called the victory a strong sign of support for Oyebanji's leadership and governance.
Bamidele, who led the All Progressives Congress campaign team in Ekiti, said Oyebanji’s new term will help continue good governance and speed up development in the state.
In a statement released on Sunday by his media team, Bamidele said the election results show “a signpost for a better, brighter and greater Ekiti.”
He praised the governor for bringing peace, unity, and political stability to Ekiti. Bamidele noted that Oyebanji changed the state's political scene from one of division to one that encourages teamwork.
Bamidele highlighted that one of Oyebanji's key successes is bringing political leaders together, regardless of their party affiliations, to work towards a common goal for Ekiti’s growth.
He specifically thanked the governor for keeping good relationships with past governors and political leaders, calling this level of unity unusual in Nigeria's politics.
“The election results show the people's trust in Oyebanji's leadership, commitment to public service, and dedication to the welfare of Ekiti people,” Bamidele said.
He also pointed out that Oyebanji is now the first governor of Ekiti to win back-to-back elections since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999.
“Oyebanji made history in Ekiti State as the first governor to be re-elected back-to-back since 1999, showing his effective governance and ability to unite state stakeholders,” he added.
Bamidele is confident that Oyebanji's second term will strengthen ongoing reforms and improve development efforts, making Ekiti a model for good governance.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of Ekiti for their peaceful behavior during the election. He commended the national and state leaders of the APC for their support in Oyebanji’s successful campaign.
The Independent National Electoral Commission announced Oyebanji as the winner of the governorship election held on Saturday. He received 319,224 votes, defeating Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 40,543 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, who had 12,872 votes.
