A heavy-duty trailer carrying iron rods crashed into the fence of the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia, Abia State, early Thursday morning.

Reports say the crash happened when the trailer lost compression while climbing a hill on the Umuahia, Ikot Ekpene Expressway.

The incident took place near Finbarrs Road, close to the Abia State High Court. This caused a major traffic jam along the busy expressway.

The trailer driver, who did not want to give his name, said the accident happened around 2:00 a.m.

He explained that while going up the hill, the vehicle lost compression. This made it roll backwards uncontrollably and crash into the Federal Medical Centre's fence.

The crash left the trailer blocking part of the federal highway. This led to heavy traffic during the morning rush hour as drivers struggled to get through the affected area.

At the time of this report, there was no official word on any injuries. Efforts were still ongoing to remove the trailer and clear the road for traffic.
