Abuja is getting ready for a new waterfront spot as Akida Hills starts building a big leisure and tourism area at Jabi Lake. This place will feature West Africa's first dancing musical fountain and other exciting attractions. It is expected to change how residents and visitors enjoy one of Abuja’s favorite spots when it opens in December 2026.
This project is part of the ongoing changes at the Jabi Lake waterfront to make it a top leisure, tourism, and lifestyle spot. Akida Hills, a Nigerian company focused on real estate and destination development, has been given a 3.36-hectare site in the roughly 14-hectare waterfront area. They will develop a mix of fun, entertainment, and public leisure activities in phases.
Kayode Bamisile, the Founder of Akida Hills, talked about the project, saying:
“Jabi Lake represents one of the most significant opportunities to create a world-class waterfront destination in Africa. Through this development, we aim to deliver experiences that attract residents, visitors, and tourists year-round while contributing to economic growth, job creation, and Nigeria’s tourism appeal. Our vision is to establish Jabi as a defining waterfront destination for the continent, one that demonstrates the transformative power of destination-led development and reimagines how people experience a city.”
The first phase of the project is set to finish in December 2026. This phase will include the first attractions like dining spots, leisure activities, water sports, regular events, a seasonal lights festival, and the dancing musical fountain, which will be the main draw. More fun activities and features will come in later phases as the area develops.
The dancing musical fountain will be a key feature of the waterfront. It will showcase choreographed water shows, synchronized lights, and music to create a unique evening attraction. This will be a central point for visitors to enjoy.
When finished, the new spot is expected to be a major hub for tourism, recreation, entertainment, and community activities. This will help boost Abuja's status as a top leisure and lifestyle destination.
Construction will happen in phases. More updates about attractions, events, and partnerships will be shared before the December 2026 opening.
